Twenty-one Yale Cancer Center Members Named in America's Top Doctors for Cancer

New Haven, Conn. - Yale Cancer Center is pleased to announce that twenty-one of its members have been listed in the first edition of America's Top Doctors for Cancer, a guide by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. The peer-nominated guide, which will be available in July 2005, features physicians who specialize in the care of cancer patients.
The following Yale Cancer Center physicians have been included in the 2005 guide: Drs. Stephan Ariyan, Irwin Braverman, Edward Chu, Vincent DeVita, Jr., Richard Edelson, Gary Friedlaender, Bruce Haffty, Jonathan Knisely, David Leffell, Shirley McCarthy, Richard Peschel, Joseph Piepmeier, Teresa Ponn, Kenneth Roberts, Thomas Rutherford, Ronald Salem, Clarence Sasaki, Peter Schwartz, Richard Stahl, Robert Udelsman, and Lynn Wilson.
Using the nominations received from the medical community, Castle Connolly reviews professional qualifications, education, residency, board certification, professional reputation, hospital and faculty appointments, experience, and disciplinary history before finalizing the pool of nominated physicians for inclusion in the guide.
Yale Cancer Center is one of a select network of 39 comprehensive cancer centers in the country designated by the National Cancer Institute and the only one in Southern New England. The Center harnesses the scientific resources of Yale University School of Medicine, Yale-New Haven Hospital, and Yale University. Led by Dr. Richard L. Edelson, a leader in cancer immunotherapy, Yale Cancer Center focuses on translational research, an approach through which laboratory discoveries are quickly and efficiently integrated with clinical patient care.
