New Haven, Conn - In recognition of National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, the team of physicians from the Prostate and Urologic Cancers Program at Yale Cancer Center are available to interview for articles on the benefits of PSA testing, the new treatment options available for prostate cancer, and new, minimally invasive surgical techniques for prostate surgery, including advanced laparoscopic prostatectomy procedure.
Prostate Cancer Facts:
- 1 in every 6 men will get prostate cancer in his life.
- Over 232,000 new cases of prostate cancer are expected to be diagnosed this year, more than breast cancer. It is the most common malignancy diagnosed in males.
- Prostate cancer is the second-leading cause of male cancer-related death in the United States.
- African American men are at special risk for prostate cancer, with the highest rate of prostate cancer in the world: 1 in 4 men.
- Every man over the age of 50 should be screened annually through PSA testing, which involves a simple blood test and a physician exam.
- There are no noticeable symptoms of prostate cancer while it is still in its early stages. This is why screening is so critical.

- Dr. Kevin Kelly, Yale Prostate and Urologic Cancers Program Director, Associate Professor of Medicine, Medical Oncology Dr. Kelly, is nationally and internationally recognized for his pioneering work in developing innovative and more effective therapies for prostate and urologic cancer patients. He is currently focusing his clinical research on developing innovative strategies to help eliminate, control, and palliate tumors in patients and is conducting multiple clinical trials for all phases of genitourinary tumors.
