Employee Profile: Von Potter

Within the Yale Diagnostic Radiology Clinical Trials Office, Von Potter, MD, Clinical Research Associate, is solely responsible for processing tumor measurement requests for all of the oncology disease teams. This requires him to deliver the tumor measurement to the appropriate radiologist and then return it to the Yale Cancer Center Clinical Trials office within 48 hours. After reviewing the request, if he notices any issues, he must work to resolve them in a timely manner so that the results are still returned in time. From there they go to the Principal Investigator on the trial to help determine if a patient should be removed from a trial, or continue with the treatment.

Dr. Potter has been in his current role for just over a year, and started as a Data Manager in the Clinical Trials Office after graduating medical school. "It can be a challenging task returning the tumor measurement requests within the 48 hours, but knowing that a PI on a trial is using it to determine if a patient's tumor is progressing or not, which can determine their treatment plan, makes it a rewarding one," said Dr. Potter.

Every protocol initiated in the Cancer Center is reviewed by Dr. Potter from a diagnostic imaging standpoint. This helps to assure budgets are correct and that the imaging requirements are feasible. Von's diligence, and impeccable time management skills, enable the CTO to report patient tumor response to the sponsors in a timely fashion.
