New Haven, Conn. - U.S. News & World Report has recognized Yale-New Haven Hospital in its annual ranking of America's Best Hospitals. Ranked in 11 of 17 specialties, Yale-New Haven ranked 24 for cancer services among the best cancer centers in the nation.

“We are pleased that the high quality of patient care provided by Yale Cancer Center has once again been recognized in the US News & World Report annual ranking of hospitals for cancer services. The strong collaboration between Yale-New Haven Hospital, the Yale University School of Medicine, and Yale Cancer Center will continue to benefit our patients as we strive to provide the finest cancer care,” Yale Cancer Center Director, Richard L. Edelson, MD, said.

To be considered in the US News rankings, a hospital must have membership in the Council of Teaching Hospitals, affiliation with a medical school, or availability of at least nine of 17 specified items of medical technology; Yale-New Haven Hospital meets all three of these criteria. Using the US News Index, each hospital receives a score that equally weighs reputation, mortality, and care-related factors. Based upon this evaluation, Yale-New Haven Hospital was ranked 24 on the list of 50 cancer centers throughout the nation.

Yale Cancer Center is one of a select network of 39 comprehensive cancer centers in the country designated by the National Cancer Institute and the only one in Southern New England. Bringing together the resources of Yale-New Haven Hospital and the Yale University School of Medicine, its mission encompasses patient care, research, cancer prevention and control, community outreach, and education.
