New Haven, Conn. - The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, in collaboration with Yale-New Haven Hospital, will present a free educational program on Monday, March 26, 2007, Exploring Leukemia: An Overview for Patients and Caregivers, at Yale-New Haven Hospital at 6 p.m.  Peter Marks, M.D., Associate Professor at Yale University School of Medicine, will present this free program on leukemia to patients and caregivers.

Leukemia is a malignant disease (cancer) of bone marrow and blood.  It is characterized by the uncontrolled accumulation of blood cells.  There are 208,785 Americans living with or in remission from leukemia.  Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20.  In 2006, the United States of America saw over 35,000 people diagnosed with leukemia.
