Yale Cancer Center Invites Survivors to Celebrate Cancer Survivors Day

New Haven, Conn. – On Tuesday, May 22, 2007 Yale Cancer Center and Yale-New Haven Hospital will host a unique program for cancer survivors and their families in celebration of National Cancer Survivors Day. The event, titled New Beginnings: Complementary Approaches to Living Well Today, will feature a special keynote address by Julia Rowland, PhD, Director of the Office of Cancer Survivorship at the National Cancer Institute.

Hosted by Dr. Mel Goldstein, meteorologist on WTNH Channel 8 News, the event is free and open to the public.  Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m., in the Anlyan Center at 300 Cedar Street; festivities and a buffet supper will be from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m.

In addition to Dr. Rowland, remarks will be made by Dr. Richard Edelson, Director of Yale Cancer Center; Dr. Kenneth Miller, Director of the Connecticut Challenge Survivorship Clinic at Yale Cancer Center; and Dr. Nina Kadan-Lottick, Director of the HERO’s Clinic for Survivors of Childhood Cancer at Yale School of Medicine.  Christian McEvoy, a young man who ran from San Francisco to Newport, RI last fall to raise funds and support for Yale Cancer Center’s survivorship initiatives will also reminisce and share his experiences from his five month journey across the United States.
