New Haven, Conn. - Home of many of the world’s breakthrough medical innovations, Yale School of Medicine is celebrating the volunteers that make medical advances possible during National Volunteer Week. On Saturday, May 3rd the public is invited to learn more about clinical research at Yale and to celebrate the volunteers who participate in clinical research studies.
The day’s festivities will include information about clinical trial participation, overviews of the clinical research studies currently enrolling participants, and plenty of food and fun activities for the entire family. Volunteer Appreciation Day will be held from 10 AM to 2 PM at Harkness Lounge and Patio, 367 Cedar Street, New Haven.
“Medical innovations would not happen without the participation of volunteers in clinical research studies. We are excited to have the opportunity to celebrate the volunteers who have helped Yale advance medicine and to share our mission with the public,” said Tesheia Johnson, MBA, MHS, Chief Operating Officer of the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation.
Research studies will be featured in the following areas: allergies, asthma, autism, cancer, cardiology, cystic fibrosis, depression, diabetes, geriatrics, HIV/AIDS, mental health, neurological disorders, orthopedics, pediatrics, rheumatology, and women’s health. A complete list of available trials is available at www.yale-studies.org
The Yale Center for Clinical Investigation (YCCI) was launched in 2006 to support and promote clinical and translational research. YCCI was one of the first 12 centers and is the only one in New England that is funded by the National Institutes of Health as part of an initiative to bring medical research from the laboratory to patients. YCCI aims to improve the health of patients in New Haven and around the world.
