Physician Biography

Dr Roberts primarily works in three areas: sickle cell disease, medical oncology, and human subjects protection. While Co-Director of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System Adult Sickle Cell Program, he was a co-investigator in the landmark Pain in Sickle Cell Epidemiology Study that changed the understanding of pain in adults with sickle cell disease. For almost 20 years he held various leadership positions in clinical and translational research at the VCU Massey Cancer Center, an NCI-designated cancer center. In 2012 he received the National Cancer Institute's Harry Hines Award as the Clinical Community Oncology Program Principal Investigator of the Year. He was Chair of the Virginia Commonwealth University IRB Panel A and is Co-Chair of the Yale Cancer IRB.
