The El-Guindy laboratory studies the productive phase of Epstein-Barr virus, a human oncogenic virus, particularly expression of viral structural genes that code for components of the virus outer shell (e.g., capsid proteins and glycoproteins). Transcription of viral genes encoding structural proteins is mediated by a group of viral The lab is also studying the role of a viral long non-coding RNA involved in synthesis of EBV structural proteins.
