Dr. Dubrow has been heavily involved in the educational mission of Yale School of Public Health, as well as in research. He taught Principles of Epidemiology I nine times, and currently teaches Principles of Epidemiology II. Dr. Dubrow was chosen by the Classes of 2002, 2007, and 2012 to be Teacher of the Year. He currently co-Chairs the Yale School of Public Health Accreditation Advisory Committee, which oversees the school's periodic self-study process leading up to the accreditation review by the Council on Education for Public Health in 2014.
Dr. Dubrow has been involved in cancer research for most of his career, first in cancer biology and then, for the major portion of his career, in cancer epidemiology, which has included the following work: 1) studies aimed at the identification of fecal and serum markers for the early detection of colorectal cancer and/or for the identification of persons at high risk for colorectal cancer; 2) case-control studies of cancers of the stomach, esophagus, breast, endometrium, and larynx, as well as malignant melanoma, childhood osteosarcoma, and childhood rhabdomyosarcoma; 3) a study of the effects of race and social factors on the stage at diagnosis of breast, prostate, colorectal, and endometrial cancers; 4) time trend and age-period-cohort analyses of malignant melanoma and colorectal cancer; and more recently, 5) HIV-related malignancies; and 6) descriptive and analytic epidemiology and patterns of care and outcomes for glioma. Since 2009, the latter two areas have been the main focus of his research. Dr. Dubrow serves as Chair of the Veterans Aging Cohort Study (VACS) Cancer Core and co-Chair of the North American AIDS Cohort Collaboration on Research and Design (NA-ACCORD) Malignancy Working Group.
