Dr. Fan’s research is focused on exploiting systems biology principles to develop nanobiotechnologies that can be used in clinic for differential diagnosis and personalized treatment of complex human diseases. One of his primary interests is to examine the pathophysiological role and corresponding signaling networks of chronic inflammation in various disease systems such as neurodegenerative disease, cardiovascular disease and cancer. Integrated microsystems will be created to analyze and recapitalize disease-associated cellular signaling processes in heterogeneous microenvironment of disease lesions. The knowledge learnt from such study will then guide the development of the most effective, individualized treatment including stem cell-based therapeutics.
