On March 15, 2024, Barbara Burtness, MD, Anthony N. Brady Professor of Medicine (Medical Oncology) presented at the 75th Anniversary of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR). Her talk was titled "Overcoming Treatment Resistance in Head and Neck Squamous Cancer."
The symposium is part of NIDCR’s yearlong 75th anniversary celebration and highlighted research conducted by NIDCR-funded institutions. Speakers were chosen from different career stages, underrepresented groups in research, international sites, and those whose work is conducted at institutions outside of dental schools. The NIDCR is the funding agency for the Yale Head and Neck Cancer Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE). The SPORE program harnesses the strengths of academic cancer centers by bringing together experts in oncology, immunobiology, pharmacology, molecular biology, pathology, epidemiology, and addiction science to collaborate on projects.
