Cesia Gallegos, MD, MHS, assistant professor of medicine (cardiovascular medicine), was recently appointed program director of the Advanced Cardiac Imaging Fellowship. Emmanuel Akintoye, MD, MPH, assistant professor of medicine (cardiovascular medicine), was appointed associate director of the program.
The Yale Advanced Cardiac Imaging Fellowship Program is a one- or two-year training program that offers fellows a unique opportunity to train in one of the country's highest-volume clinical multimodality cardiac imaging centers while engaging in integrated translational and clinical research and medical education opportunities. The program has a proven track record of providing expert training to fellows in the field of multimodality cardiac imaging.
Gallegos and Akintoye are both established multimodality cardiac imaging leaders.
Gallegos trained in cardiovascular medicine and advanced cardiac imaging at Yale and holds expertise in nuclear cardiology, cardiomyopathies, and medical education. She is active in imaging societies. She is a writing committee member for the upcoming multi-societal advanced cardiac imaging training statement guidelines.
Akintoye trained in cardiovascular medicine at the University of Iowa and completed advanced cardiac imaging training at the Cleveland Clinic, with an emphasis on structural echocardiography and cardiac CT and MR. He is active in both the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the American Heart Association (AHA) as a council member and has published numerous manuscripts on valvular heart disease.
Gallegos and Aktinoye succeed Edward Miller, MD, PhD, associate professor of medicine (cardiovascular medicine), and Lauren Baldassarre, MD, associate professor of medicine (cardiovascular medicine), who recently served as interim co-directors of the cardiac imaging fellowship program.
