Shoreline Quilt Guild Donates Quilts to Patients at Smilow

September 21, 2016

On Tuesday, September 20th, representatives from the Shoreline Quilt Guild donated 15 quilts to Smilow Cancer Hospital for patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Bonnie Indeck, LCSW, Manager of Oncology Social Work, and Angela Khairallah, LCSW accepted the quilts on behalf of patients.

The idea for making and donating the quilts came about when a current patient, Marianne D’Eugenio, explained to her friends at the Quilt Guild how chemotherapy infusions can cause patients to become chilled. To keep warm, Marianne brings her quilts to work on and spends most of her treatment time getting compliments and answering questions about her quilt work.

“When Marianne told us about her experience at Smilow, we thought the quilts would be cheerful gifts for the patients to keep them warm during their treatments,” explained Carol Ann Totte, a member of the Shoreline Quilt Guild. “We have donated more than 100 quilts to hospitals and non-profits around Connecticut this year.”

Thanks to Marianne and the thoughtfulness and generosity of the members of the Quilt Guild, patients at Smilow Cancer Hospital and around Connecticut, can share in the warmth the quilts bring, both physically and emotionally.
