Barbara Burtness, MD, Anthony N. Brady Professor of Medicine (Medical Oncology), Chief Translational Research Officer at Yale Cancer Center, and Chief of Head and Neck Cancers/Sarcoma, and Maryam Lustberg, MD, MPH, Associate Professor of Internal Medicine (Medical Oncology) and Chief of Breast Medical Oncology, have been named Fellows of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (FASCO). The FASCO distinction honors members of ASCO for their extraordinary volunteer service, commitment, and dedication to the organization.
Recipients have made exceptional contributions to the oncology community and this designation recognizes their commitment to transforming cancer care and improving quality of life for people living with cancer. Dr. Burtness cares for head and neck cancer patients and is internationally recognized for her research. She leads the ECOG-ACRIN Head and Neck Therapeutics Committee, which conducts large multicenter trials in head and neck cancer. Dr. Lustberg, who is also Director of the Center for Breast Cancer at Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center, has been recognized for her patient-focused care with awards that include being rated by Forbes as one of the top breast medical oncologists in the nation. Her research efforts are focused on improving the long-term outcomes for patients with breast cancer who have developed side effects associated with treatment.
