  • 00:00I'm Harry is Laney, and I'm advancing.
  • 00:04Tosca ****** as part of the Yale
  • 00:07Gastroenterology Department and we
  • 00:09treat a variety of patients with
  • 00:11gastrointestinal problems in our
  • 00:13field of advancement. OSCA, P.
  • 00:15We're usually faced with a fairly
  • 00:18focused question that often deals with.
  • 00:21A diagnostic problem looking at getting
  • 00:24a biopsy or a sampling or getting
  • 00:26more information or seeing if we can
  • 00:29possibly treat something completely
  • 00:31through the scope so we look to have
  • 00:34as much information up to that point
  • 00:36as possible and then formulate a plan
  • 00:39as part of a multidisciplinary team to
  • 00:42see how we can provide some answers.
  • 00:45We always find it helpful to have caregiver
  • 00:48or family member present during a meeting.
  • 00:51They often can provide.
  • 00:53Important historical information
  • 00:54about symptoms or prior testing.
  • 00:56If we are performing a
  • 00:59procedure after sedation,
  • 01:00it's necessary to have a ride home
  • 01:03an when we discuss the results after
  • 01:06procedure is often helpful to have
  • 01:10another person there to help remember
  • 01:13some of the details if needed.
  • 01:16The part of endoscopy that I enjoy
  • 01:19the most is having a visual
  • 01:22representation of a problem.
  • 01:25And the chance to to
  • 01:27make an immediate impact,
  • 01:28either with a diagnosis and in many
  • 01:32cases potentially with the treatment
  • 01:34that can remove a problem such as an
  • 01:37early cancer or polyp of the say,
  • 01:40esophagus, stomach or colon.
  • 01:41Part of the Smilow advanced
  • 01:44Endoscopy Team we work as part
  • 01:46of a multidisciplinary team.
  • 01:47So many of the questions that we face have
  • 01:51to do with the question of something that.
  • 01:54Could be precancerous,
  • 01:56or what the current state of something is,
  • 01:59so it's it's a great pleasure to work
  • 02:02as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • 02:04of variety of very expert and talented
  • 02:08physicians, including surgeons,
  • 02:09radiologists, pathologists,
  • 02:10an oncologist.
  • 02:11So knowing that the patient is getting
  • 02:14the best care possible and it's going
  • 02:17to have the best outcomes possible
  • 02:20from each specialty is is really rewarding.
  • 02:23My research interests center around.
  • 02:26Advance into Osca P in the care of
  • 02:30patients with problems that we treat,
  • 02:33so we have a variety of ongoing research
  • 02:37studies that involve sometimes the
  • 02:40details of the performance of endoscopy,
  • 02:44applying new technology or new
  • 02:47techniques and also optimizing.
  • 02:50The techniques that we used to
  • 02:52get the best results for patients.
