Joshua Warrick, MD, will join the Department of Pathology as a professor of pathology and senior research scientist on July 1, Chen Liu, MD, PhD, chair of Yale Pathology, announced. Dr. Warrick will succeed Peter Humphrey, MD, PhD, as director of genitourinary pathology. Dr. Humphrey is retiring after a long and stellar career as one of the preeminent practicing surgical and urologic pathologists of his generation and will continue as professor emeritus and research scientist.
Dr. Warrick is a physician-scientist who comes to Yale from Penn State University, where he currently serves as professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and chief of the Division of Anatomic Pathology. He earned a bachelor of science in chemistry and his medical degree from Wayne State University, completed anatomic and clinical pathology residency at Washington University in St. Louis, and completed fellowships in genitourinary pathology and surgical pathology at the University of Michigan. He joined Penn State faculty in 2014, just after completing a fellowship. Dr. Warrick has served in other administrative positions at Penn State including medical director of the histology laboratory and gross room, vice chair of clinical operations AP, and director of the genitourinary pathology service.
Dr. Warrick is an award-winning researcher who has received numerous grants to study bladder cancer. His work focuses on transcriptional regulation of bladder cancer phenotype. Major contributions have been in lineage plasticity and tumor evolution of bladder cancer, particularly in understanding how these processes influence therapy response. Dr. Warrick has authored dozens of peer-reviewed original research projects, and has been an invited speaker at symposia, conferences, and workshops nationally and internationally. He is an editor and reviewer for a number of scientific publications and a member of several professional organizations, including The International Society of Urological Pathology and The Genitourinary Pathology Society.
When he’s not working, Dr. Warrick can be found running, reading, or listening to music. He will be joined by his wife Erin and sons Max and Alex.
