Yale faculty members Drs. Xin Zhou and Donna Spiegelman at the Center for Methods in Implementation and Prevention Science and Department of Biostatistics at the Yale School of Public Health, along with colleagues from several other universities, including lead author Dr. Davaasambuu Ganmaa of the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health, published findings last week in the New England Journal of Medicine, demonstrating that vitamin D supplementation does not lower children’s risk of TB infection. Their findings, which contradict previous cross-sectional studies, are based on a large phase 3, randomized controlled trial among 8,851 vitamin D-deficient schoolchildren in Mongolia.
