Community Research Fellowship Program

The Community Research Fellowship Program pairs diverse Waterbury, New Haven, and Bridgeport community members with research teams to provide community consultation on cancer research projects. This is a wonderful opportunity to get connected to community outreach and engagement work at Yale Cancer Center (YCC). Fellows are embedded within research teams for a 9-month placement with YCC scientists to provide community expertise and build skills & confidence to be equitable research partners. This is a collaboration with Community Alliance for Research & Engagement (CARE). Alumni from this program have continued their work with YCC in various ways, including joining the YCC Community Advisory Board, continuing their work with investigators as paid consultants, and working on manuscripts for publication.

Fellows contribute to ongoing research projects in various ways, including:
  • Consult to bring a community perspective to all areas of a research project.
  • Help design research materials such as survey questions, focus groups, data collection protocols, data interpretation, and community outreach and recruitment strategies.
  • Help disseminate research findings and collaborate with the community to identify research priorities.
  • Lend their unique expertise to foster authentic connections between Yale Cancer Center and the Waterbury, New Haven, and Bridgeport communities.
