Adriana Ramirez, MD, MPH, Assistant Professor of Surgery (Endocrine), is expanding access to specialty endocrine care at Smilow Cancer Hospital in Trumbull, located at 5520 Park Avenue. Dr. Ramirez provides comprehensive care for patients with benign and malignant thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal tumors as part of the Center for Endocrine Tumors at Smilow Cancer Hospital. In Trumbull, she is enhancing access to high-quality specialty care for patients in western Connecticut. Her clinical expertise includes managing complex thyroid and parathyroid tumors, ranging from low-risk to advanced thyroid cancers, as well as benign thyroid and parathyroid conditions, and rare parathyroid carcinomas.
A strong proponent of introducing and leveraging new technologies, Dr. Ramirez focuses on improving surgical outcomes and advancing non-surgical options for patients with thyroid disease, including the use of Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA), a unique, non-surgical way to treat benign thyroid lesions. Her research focuses on addressing health disparities and eliminating inequities in access, care, and outcomes for patients, particularly among vulnerable populations. She completed her medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina, followed by general surgery training and a postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Virginia. She also earned a Master of Public Health with a focus on health policy and systems analytics from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Most recently, she completed an American Association of Endocrine Surgeons (AAES) fellowship in Endocrine Surgery at Emory University.
Dr. Ramirez is an active member of multiple professional organizations, including the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the Latin Surgical Society, the American College of Surgeons, and the Association of Women Surgeons. Additionally, she has served on departmental, institutional, and national Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committees. Dr. Ramirez’s dedication to equitable care, innovative solutions, and the integration of technology makes her an invaluable member of the Center for Endocrine Tumors and an advocate for improving patient access
