Hematologist, Dr. Jan Bewersdorf, Joins Smilow Cancer Hospital

Jan Bewersdorf, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine (Hematology) and cares for patients with myeloid malignancies spanning from myeloproliferative neoplasms to myelodysplastic syndromes and acute myeloid leukemia at Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven. He received his medical degree in Germany at Ludwig Maximilians University Munich, completed his residency at Yale New Haven Hospital, and a fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

As a clinician-scientist, Dr. Bewersdorf’s work aims to combine basic and translational research with clinical and outcomes research to study myeloid neoplasms and he strives to advance patient care by conducting innovative clinical trials with a strong correlative component in collaboration with laboratory-based colleagues. He has developed and co-led several early phase clinical trials in myeloid malignancies and his research e  orts have led to over 100 peer-reviewed publications to date including first-author publications in Lancet, Blood, Leukemia, and Lancet Haematology. Dr. Bewersdorf has received several prestigious awards including the 2024 EvansMDS Young Investigator Award and serves on the editorial board and is a reviewer of several important hematology and oncology journals.
