Overview
Jessica Chow, MD, is an ophthalmologist who cares for patients at the Yale Eye Center. She is the director of the Cornea and External Disease Service for Yale Medicine.
“I love this work because it gives me the ability every day to positively impact a person's quality of life in a profound and immediate way,” Dr. Chow says. Treating patients for eye conditions also provides an opportunity to develop long-term relationships, which are especially rewarding, she says.
Dr. Chow treats a range of problems, from the simple to the complex. In addition to performing both routine and complex cataract surgery, she is experienced in performing corneal transplants, including penetrating keratoplasty, in which the entire thickness of the cornea is removed and replaced by transparent corneal tissue from a donor. Dr. Chow also offers the newest type of corneal transplant procedure, Descemet's membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK), a partial thickness corneal transplant that offers better visual results than other types of endothelial transplants.
Dr. Chow is an assistant professor of ophthalmology at Yale School of Medicine.
