Yale LGBTQ Mental Health Initiative receives prestigious award
The Yale LGBTQ Mental Health Initiative, a New York City-based group co-sponsored by the Yale School of Public Health and the Department of Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine, was recently honored with the prestigious 2024 Emery Award by the Hetrick-Martin Institute. The award ceremony took place Oct. 24 at Nordstrom in Midtown Manhattan.

Anti-LGBTQ+ policies linked to depression in Black and Latinx LGBTQ+ youth
Black and Latinx LGBTQ+ youth living in U.S. states with discriminatory policies, such as “Don’t Say Gay” laws, are more likely to be depressed than their peers in the most LGBTQ+- affirming states, according to new research from Yale School of Public Health scholars.

New Online Training for Mental Health Providers Benefits LGBTQ Community
Mental health providers can learn to deliver evidence-based LGBTQ-affirmative cognitive therapy through low-cost online training, which would help deliver more evidence-based mental health care to LGBTQ people and support its implementation across practice settings, according to a new study by Yale School of Public Health (YSPH) researchers.

Yale Alumnus Pledges $5 Million for Yale School of Public Health Fund and Professorship to Advance LGBTQ Mental Health
Yale School of Medicine alumnus David R. Kessler, M.D. ’55, is directing $5 million from his estate to the Yale School of Public Health, part of which is intended for the creation of a David R. Kessler Endowed Professorship. The professorship and accompanying resource fund will support teaching and research associated with improving LGBTQ mental health.

Faculty, students honored for LGBTQI curriculum innovation
Two faculty members and two students at the School of Medicine will receive the 2017 NEGEA Innovation Award in May from the Northeast Group on Educational Affairs. The award goes to NEGEA-affiliated schools who have developed an outstanding innovative approach to medical education.
