The Endocrine Surgery Program at Smilow Cancer Hospital provides patients with individualized evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of benign and malignant conditions of the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands. It is one of the highly regarded academic surgery practices in the country. Our three surgeons, Drs. Courtney Gibson, Grace Lee, and Adriana Ramierz are all specialty trained in Endocrine Surgery and work together in close collaboration with specialists at Yale and across the larger community to provide the most comprehensive, leading-edge surgical treatment available.
We offer minimally invasive surgical techniques whenever possible, and also treat many complex, recurrent, and reoperative cases.

Courtney Gibson, MD, MS, FACS
Associate Professor of Surgery (Endocrine Surgery)
Courtney Gibson, MD, MS, FACS, is an Assistant Professor of Surgery (Endocrine Surgery) at Yale School of Medicine and cares for patients with cancerous and benign conditions affecting the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands at Smilow Cancer Hospital. She is Program Director of the
Yale Endocrine Surgery Fellowship. She received her medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine and was a postdoctoral research fellow at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). She completed her training in General Surgery at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, and her fellowship training in Endocrine Surgery at Scott & White Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Gibson is skilled in performing minimally invasive surgical techniques, including retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy, to care for patients with endocrine tumors. Her research interests include outcomes after minimally invasive endocrine surgery, outpatient thyroidectomy and parathyroidectomy, intraoperative laryngeal nerve monitoring, and endocrine oncology.
Jennifer Ogilvie, MD, FACS

Jennifer Ogilvie, MD, FACS, is Chief of Endocrine Surgery and Associate Professor of Surgery (Endocrine Surgery) at Yale School of Medicine. She graduated from Yale University with a bachelor’s degree in American Studies and
received her medical degree from Harvard. She completed residency training in General Surgery and fellowship training in Endocrine Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco.
Dr. Ogilvie joined Yale via New York University, where she practiced across the health system, was Director of Endocrine Surgery at Bellevue Hospital and led several research initiatives to evaluate disparities in Endocrine Surgery. Her clinical interests focus on the optimal surgical treatment of thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal tumors. Her research interests include surgical education, developing models for shared clinical decision making, and optimizing clinical outcomes in Endocrine Surgery.
Adriana Ramirez, MD, MPH
Assistant Professor of Surgery (Endocrine Surgery)
Adriana Ramirez, MD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor of Surgery (Endocrine Surgery) at Yale School of Medicine treating patients as part of the Smilow Multidisciplinary Endocrine Tumors Program. She received her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and completed her general surgery training including a research fellowship in surgical outcomes at the University of Virginia. She graduated with a master of public health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health focused on program evaluation and implementation science. Dr. Ramirez recently completed an American Association of Endocrine Surgeons (AAES) accredited fellowship in Endocrine surgery at Emory University and is a board-certi ed general surgeon.
Dr. Ramirez cares for patients with benign and malignant thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal diseases. She is interested in leveraging technologies for the treatment of endocrine disease including radiofrequency ablation and performing robotic adrenalectomy. Her research interests include health disparities in patients with advanced thyroid cancers and secondary/tertiary hyperparathyroidism and improving equitable care for endocrine surgical patients.
