  • 00:00Hi, I'm Andrea Silber,
  • 00:02a medical oncologist who
  • 00:04specializes in breast cancer.
  • 00:06I really love what I do.
  • 00:08I have been doing this for many
  • 00:11years and it's an honor to be
  • 00:14able to take care of patients.
  • 00:17It's a particular honor to be able
  • 00:19to take care of patients from this
  • 00:22community that trained me how to be a
  • 00:26doctor and to have better alternatives,
  • 00:28better treatments, new discoveries
  • 00:30that are going to help patients.
  • 00:33It's a great time to be a breast oncologist.
  • 00:37I'm all about the team approach.
  • 00:40I work with a nurse practitioner and nurse,
  • 00:44usually PCA,
  • 00:45who helps room the patient and
  • 00:48the person who mansar telephones.
  • 00:52All of the members of the team.
  • 00:55Need to know a little bit about
  • 00:58that patient so they can put
  • 01:01anything that transpires into
  • 01:03context and we all work together.
  • 01:07We're like a family and we're a family
  • 01:10that all takes care of that patient.
  • 01:14I think it's a good idea
  • 01:17to bring a caregiver,
  • 01:19particularly for those who
  • 01:21have trouble either speaking,
  • 01:23expressing themselves,
  • 01:24have difficulty with health.
  • 01:26Or medical terminology.
  • 01:28Often a caregiver can serve as
  • 01:31a different kind of translator,
  • 01:34making sure that everyone understands
  • 01:37what's discussed at the visit.
  • 01:40I have long been interested in why
  • 01:43certain populations are vulnerable
  • 01:46or more vulnerable to breast cancer,
  • 01:49either in incidents or an outcome,
  • 01:53and my particular interest is looking at.
  • 01:57Breast cancer in women of color,
  • 02:01trying to increase inclusivity
  • 02:04in clinical trial participation.
  • 02:07It's not that I'm just interested
  • 02:09in one particular group or
  • 02:12one particular ethnicity.
  • 02:14Finding out having discovery in
  • 02:17what makes press cancer not do well
  • 02:22informs knowledge for everybody.
