• 00:07I've always been torn between
• 00:10humanities and science.
• 00:12And my mother was a physician when he died.
• 00:15That medicine is a perfect blend
• 00:17of humanities and science and she
• 00:19was right as mothers tend to be.
• 00:21The more information we have about a cancer,
• 00:24the more precise and accurate treatment
• 00:26plan we could set up for you.
• 00:28However, it's also very important
• 00:29to bring your questions.
• 00:31I think everybody has questions,
• 00:32and some of them may get lost during
• 00:35a discussion unless you write it
• 00:38down in a paper and bring it in.
• 00:40And then I go to physicians.
• 00:42I sometimes feel embarrassed to
• 00:44actually ask a question because
• 00:46I think it kind of a sign that I
• 00:48somehow don't trust the person.
• 00:49But please don't feel that way.
• 00:51I cherish questions.
• 00:52I think it's always very helpful
• 00:54to bring someone video who you
• 00:56trust a family member or a friend.
• 00:58It's a lot of information that
• 00:59you will hear during the initial
• 01:01visits and to process
• 01:02those and remember them is
• 01:04difficult, and I think it's very,
• 01:06very helpful to have somebody with you
• 01:08in addition to clinical work. I also.
• 01:10Direct Co direct, the cancer centers,
• 01:13genetics and genomics research program,
• 01:15and in that role we do research that aims
• 01:19to define genetic and molecular
• 01:21abnormalities that drive cancer
• 01:23and eventually would lead to new
• 01:25therapies and new diagnostic tests.
• 01:27One important thing that I would
• 01:30like to communicate to you is that
• 01:32the diagnosis of breast cancer is no
• 01:35longer associated or shouldn't be fear.
• 01:38It's hope. The vast majority
• 01:40of breast cancer patients.
• 01:42Back in those to be the new diagnosed
• 01:44with the disease today are cured.
