- 00:00My name is Terry Parker and I'm an
- 00:03assistant professor of medicine.
- 00:05In this section of hematology.
- 00:06So in medical school and an
- 00:08internal medicine residency,
- 00:09I was always drawn to the
- 00:12human to logical malignancies.
- 00:13The research in the field was
- 00:15rapidly expanding and very exciting,
- 00:17and the patients had these amazing
- 00:20relationships with their physicians,
- 00:21many spanning years, and all of this had.
- 00:25Led to my decision to specialize
- 00:27in haematological malignancies,
- 00:28specifically plasma cell disorders
- 00:29when patients come from the first
- 00:31appointment with any physician,
- 00:33especially when discussing a
- 00:34possible or new diagnosis of cancer,
- 00:36it can be very overwhelming.
- 00:38I would encourage all patients
- 00:40and their support system,
- 00:41whether that be a family member or
- 00:44friends to write down any questions
- 00:46or concerns that they have.
- 00:48That way you can be sure that these
- 00:50are addressed during your appointments.
- 00:52Treatment of plasma cell disorders
- 00:54is definitely a team approach.
- 00:56Here at yell at the team is not
- 00:58only your physician but consist
- 01:00of an advanced practice provider,
- 01:03which is a physician assistant.
- 01:05In our case, practice Tarsis infusion nurses,
- 01:07nutrition and social work,
- 01:09which also runs a patient support
- 01:11group for multiple myeloma patients.
- 01:13My research focused mirrors
- 01:14my clinical interest.
- 01:15I conduct clinical trials in
- 01:17patients with plasma cell disorders.
- 01:19There have been many advances in
- 01:21plasma cell disorders in regards to
- 01:24the understanding of the diseases,
- 01:26pathogenesis, and biology.
- 01:26Which has led to the new developments
- 01:29of treatments.
