New York Magazine has included 56 Yale School of Medicine physicians on a list of the top doctors in the metropolitan area for 2004. The university physicians' clinical practice is known as Yale Medical Group.
Spanning 36 specialties, from addiction psychiatry to vascular and interventional radiology, the list serves as a guide for patients seeking the best in medical care. To compile the list, New York Magazine collaborated with Castle Connolly Medical, a research and publishing company. Thousands of top physicians in the New York area completed a survey that asked them to nominate top doctors in almost every specialty. Castle Connolly then refined the list based on hundreds of interviews with leading specialists, chiefs of service and other hospital personnel, and publishes a guidebook "Top Doctors: New York Metro area." The magazine list is a shorter version, designed to offer geographic balance for the magazine's readership and a broad specialty representation.
"Every year this list and the guidebook include many of our physicians in a wide variety of specialties," said Yale Medical Group Director David Leffell, M.D., professor of dermatology and chief of dermatologic surgery at Yale. "Yale encourages excellence and innovation in our clinical practice and in many instances offers the most advanced care available. We are pleased that our work is recognized."
