Robert J. Touloukian elected next president of New England Surgical Society

Robert J. Touloukian, MD, professor emeritus of surgery and pediatrics at Yale School of Medicine, has been chosen as president-elect of the New England Surgical Society (NESS). His term as president will begin on September 10, 2017.

Dr. Touloukian served as chief of pediatric surgery at Yale from 1973 to 2003. He founded the pediatric surgery fellowship program at Yale and endowed the Robert J. Touloukian Fund for Pediatric Surgical Research and Education. He joined the Yale faculty in 1968 after receiving his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and completing his general surgery residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and his pediatric surgical training at Babies Hospital, Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.

In addition to pursuing clinical care and research at Yale, Dr. Touloukian has been involved in the development of a national ethics curriculum for pediatric surgeons. He is a past president of the American Pediatric Surgical Association, past chair of the surgical section of the American Academy of Pediatrics and past president of the Medical Staff at Yale New Haven Hospital.
