Overview

Mary Jane Hogan, MD, MPH, specializes in noncancerous conditions that affect children’s white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets and clotting factors (proteins in the blood that control bleeding). She also evaluates and treats pediatric cancers including leukemia, lymphoma tumors anywhere in the body.

A childhood cancer survivor herself, Dr. Hogan says she has long recognized the importance of family support when it comes to health care. “Although pediatric blood disorders and cancers are rare, they impact us all, which is something I think about as a parent, spouse, sister, daughter, cousin and aunt,” Dr. Hogan says.

The advances in the diagnosis, treatment and supportive care for pediatric blood disorders and cancers have been extraordinary, Dr. Hogan says. “I enjoy navigating children through and familiarizing families with these complex choices,” she says. “Working alongside pediatric health-care providers and children from newborn to 20 or older is inspiring. As a member of the Children’s Oncology Group, a national collaboration of pediatric cancer specialists, I have access to other experts who research these rare disorders so I can provide the most current treatments available.”

Dr. Hogan is an assistant clinical professor of pediatric hematology and oncology at Yale School of Medicine.
